The Carnival of Venice is one of the city’s most important and a show known and renowned all over the world for its particular beauty. Its origin may be probably coincide with the celebrations called by the Doge in 1662 in order to celebrate the victory over the Patriarch of Aquileia: they organized games, dances, competitions and spectacular fireworks which were very much appreciated by the whole population; the Venetian aristocrats dressed up by wearing the characteristic black velvet cape with hood called Bauta. Later on the Carnival of Venice took on more and more important dimensions. The masks that one can admire during this period are extraordinary and unique. The city fills with music, dances and games in every campo and campiello, offering a show of colours, unconventionality. |
